We spend a lot of time in our homes, so it makes sense to make it a hub of frugal living. With a few simple additions, your home can become a powerful ally on your money-saving journey. These are some frugal must haves I recommend!
This isn’t a list of things that I am urging you to rush out and buy. Most of them you can make at home. But if you feel that it will help you then there is no reason why you can’t spend a bit of money now to help you save in the long run.
Meal planner
You can use any old scrap of paper for this or create a spreadsheet. You can also buy a printable meal planner that you can use over and over again.
Meal planning is a fantastic way to save money on food. You will reduce food waste and take the pressure off deciding what to eat at mealtimes.
Budget
An absolute must. How can you truly manage your money if you don’t have a budget? Get a budget now. Whether it is a page in a notebook or a fancy spreadsheet. Just get something.
Use your budget as a way to decide where you spend your money. Where are going to put it to use this month? Plan the savings and spendings.
Large storage containers
I’m talking about food containers. Bulk prepping for meals is a huge convenience and a great way to save some serious money.
By buying food in bulk and preparing in batches, you can save money on both food costs and cooking. You then store them in the fridge or freezer until you want them.
Washing line/airer
If you didn’t already know, your tumble dryer is expensive. Having a family means that that the need to dry lots of clothes can become expensive.
Having a washing or airer means that you can dry clothes for free. Drying them outside if the weather is nice is the quickest way but you can dry your clothes inside too.
Good tea and coffee making equipment
If you are a fan of a hot beverage, then chances are that you like good tea and/or coffee. The temptation to buy these from expensive coffee shops can be huge, therefore investing in some decent equipment could save you money.
Not all options will be expensive so do some research and find the cheapest way to produce the best quality tea and coffee.
Bicarbonate of soda and vinegar
These two products are absolute staples for any frugal cleaning cupboard. You can clean 95% of your home with these two items.
Both of them are widely available and cheap to purchase. You can even buy them in bulk to save even more money.
Reusable cloths and wipes
If you’ve got kids, then you will probably need a few of these. You can make them yourself from old clothes, bedding or towels.
Once you’ve got a set, you can use them for everything from mopping up spills to clean your house to removing your make-up.
